Socrates Marquez

Painter

Born and raised in the Dominican Republic, Márquez is a visual artist working primarily in acrylics and oils, his upbringing influences may be experienced through his paintings. Through exploration and experimentation of acrylics, household items and found objects he gives life to pieces of art full of texture with deep and vibrant colors evoking his Caribbean roots.

He lives in Harlem, New York having moved to the United States in 1998.

Márquez is primarily self-taught and in 2007 he enrolled in art classes hosted by the English painter John A. Parks at the School of Visual Arts of New York.
