MISION

The purpose of the Alliance of Dominican American Visual Artists (ADAVA) is to advance the general public’s understanding of, interest in, and appreciation of the artworks produced by local artists of predominantly Dominican heritage in the Washington Heights and Inwood neighborhoods of New York City. In furtherance of this purpose, the ADAVA will offer local visual artists access to technical support and creative art education, as well as assist these artists with organizing exhibits, locating venues for these exhibits, and generally expanding the opportunities for these artists to have their works exposed to the public at large. 

HISTORY

The Alliance of Dominican American Visual Artists, Inc (ADAVA) was founded on December 19, 2004, by a group of outstanding Dominican visual artists, as a non-for-profit art organization. These eminent visual artists had a vision and belief that Washington Heights and Inwood were lacking an art organization that would be dedicated to enhancing the general public’s understanding, interest and appreciation of the arts produced by local artists of all ethnicities or cultural backgrounds, predominantly from the Washington Heights and Inwood neighborhoods of New York City. The founding members, Ezequiel Jimenez, Robert Paulino, Rene de los Santos, Jose “Artie” Parra and other artists, were concerned with providing the local artists with technical support, venues for exhibits, assistance with organizing exhibits and opportunities to have their work exposed to the public at large.

It is still our mission to contribute to the cultural, social, and economic development of our members and their communities. It is our belief that if we could help to improve the lives of our artists, we could generate improvements in their families and this would help to change and promote better opportunities and qualities of life for our neighborhoods.
